Triton Labs Afterburner Manual

09/09/10
Triton Labs Afterburner Kit

Does everybody remember the Afterburner? That was the frontlight mod for the Game Boy Advance that was produced by Triton Labs in response to the GBA's noted lack of screen lighting. The Afterburner kits are no longer being manufactured, but just in case you happen to find one behind your couch or at a garage sale, I decided to post the installation manual. Even if it's no longer useful it's still a fun trip down memory lane.

Synth Sighting on White Collar

09/09/10
I was watching White Collar last night and at one point Mozzie can be seen using a Moog synthesizer to try to crack a musical code. The first person who can tell me exactly what synth it was gets a cookie.

Low Cost Data Recovery

08/19/10
Summer is nice, but it seems like every year several of my hard drives start feeling the heat and decide they want to die. Luckily there are quite a few free and low cost data recovery tips and tricks that can be tried before giving up or calling in the data recovery experts. This list of computer data recovery ideas has helped me save my files on numerous occasions. I figured I'd re-post it just in case anybody else's drives got killed by the heat this summer.

Spammers: Modd3d Comments = NOFOLLOW

08/17/10
Spam is for eating, not for blogging!

Attention spammers: Any links showing up in your comments, whether they be in the text itself or in the email/URL fields, are all nofollow. This means they won't help you much with your search engine ranking. Plus I'm probably going to delete them anyway, so maybe go spam somewhere else.

What counts as spamming? Well, if you leave a helpful comment that actually relates to the post you just read but enter the URL for something you're pimping, like if I had an article on confetti cannons and you left a link to your confetti store, I may just leave that. If you leave a comment about your shoe store on every single post on this site I'm going to delete your comments. This site has nothing to do with shoes, and unless somebody tells me where I can get those shoes with the lights in them in an adult size 13, it probably won't.

Max Headroom DVD Finally Available

08/12/10
Max Headroom DVD
After years of waiting for a Max Headroom DVD, it's finally available! It was released a couple days ago and apparently I slept through it.

The show is set 20 minutes into the future, where television ratings rule everything and off-switches are illegal. Edison Carter, a reporter for Network 23, gets into an accident, has his consciousness transferred into a computer, and the wise-cracking Max Headroom is born.

Max Headroom was really ahead of its time. The retro-tech look of the show was partially responsible for getting me into steampunk before I even knew that was a thing. I think all the computer displays were done on an Amiga. Max himself isn't actually computer-generated, though, despite what people think. They stuck Matt Frewer in a plastic suit, gave him some plastic hair, and did all the st-st-stuttering stuff with traditional editing techniques.

It's really too bad this show got canceled so soon, but at least now I can go watch my Max Headroom DVD and get a glimpse of the world, 20 minutes into the future.

And, apparently lots of birthdays in July. Mine is July 18th (65th). Cake? Ice Cream?
This will be the last Synth meeting at Renton Technical Ccollege.
-----------------------------------------
It will be up to someone else to setup these meetings in the future. I have talked with the people from the American Museum of Radio and Electricity in Bellingham. They would be willing to host a meeting and they have adequate space however there will be costs involved. If you have not been to the museum, go! You will not be disappointed.

Others have suggested holding the meeting on Vancouver Island, a good idea. Perhaps the people at Sound Quest could help out."

Overclocked Nintendo DS is Fake!

Overclocked Nintendo DS Fake Exposed!

It's been interesting reading the comments that have been posted ever since I put up the series of videos showing various Game Boys and Nintendo DS's being overclocked with a GBAccelerator DS chip. Most of them fall into the category of "this is totally fake because...". I'm posting this article as a one-stop source addressing the most common overclocked DS conspiracy theories.

Laser Suit

06/24/10
This laser suit by Taiwanese designer Wei-Chieh Shih has 200 frickin laser diodes attached to a nylon jacket. I think I need one of these so I can fight crime and make ravers jealous. On second thought, it would probably clash with my Tron suit.

Multiplicity Modules are Coming

05/23/10
The Multiplicity line of buffered multiples for Eurorack is almost ready to go. Both modules regenerate your CV or audio signal for each and every output jack so there is no degradation. The inputs are cascaded so you have flexibility in your signal routing; one signal can be sent out all the outputs or you can have several signals with a few outputs each.

Multiplicity XV (10HP) gives you 5 inputs and 15 outputs and is great for routing signals all over your modular. Available from dealers: Early June

Multiplicity VI (2HP) gives you 2 inputs and 6 outputs and is perfect when you have just a little space left over in your rack that you don't want to go to waste. Available from dealers: Late June
